Jesus, the Time Conscious Man

It must be our life study to intentionally observe the l ifestyle habits of Jesus for it is only by beholding that we can become changed into the same image. The Lord Jesus Christ, both as man and God, is time conscious. He demonstrated this unequivocally while He was on earth and has given us the example to follow. Everything regarding Him was fixed within a time frame. He was never late to appointments but was always on time. He lived with such a sense of the shortness of time that we find Him in the gospels speak about it. Let us consider some Bible verses. After His baptism, His beginning words of ministry were, “The time is fulfilled…” Here He refers to prophecy. Prophecy is a depiction of God’s working, fixed within a time frame. Jesus knew He had just a few days to live. In fact, He went as far as describing it using night and day. He said, “I must work the works of Him that sent Me, while it is day, the night cometh when no man can work.” John 9:4

Jesus knew God’s time for Him. By prophetic dating, as in Daniel 9:24-27, He was to begin His ministry by AD 27. He fulfilled that. By half of AD 31 He was to be sacrificed for man’s sins. He accomplished that right on time after which He ascended to heaven to begin work as our High Priest.

By AD 34, probation closed for the Jewish people as a nation. In Acts 7:56, we see Him standing up, a symbol of judgment upon the people. And by prophecy still, at a certain time in history, He was to change activity in the heavenly sanctuary. He accomplished that right on time.

Would we become like Him? Then we must learn to be time conscious in every respect of our lives, particularly in relation to how short our lives are, how soon Jesus is to return, the uncertainty of tomorrow or even today. Ultimately, we must l ive in relation to God’s timing. We may begin practically today by being punctual to every meeting we are called upon to attend.
