Poem

What God Will Not Do.

by Fawehinmi Oluwatobi

To coerce, he would not;

To lie and himself deny

This not at all.

He does encourage to right

But for you the right he would

Not perform.

He gave His Son, but would not

Take Him for you.

He would inspire you to seek Him,

But you must do the seeking.

He gives us faith,

But it is ours to exercise.

He gives us a brain to perceive, to judge, to reason and to remember

But it is ours to maximise.

Hence say not that you forgot what ought to be recalled.

He gave us a will,

It is ours to exercise;

We choose good or evil,

To be foolish or to be wise.

Nothing is firstly automatic,

We choose to move or to remain static.

He gives us a garden,

It is ours to culture,

He gives us a new heart,

We must join Him that heart

To nurture.

He gives us seed,

He expects of us to breed.

He gave us a body not to idle

But to enable,

To strengthen by hard work,

It is up to us if it decays or gets blocked.

He gives us children,

He would not raise them for us.

Let not upon our minds prevail

The thought that God would raise our children for us.

He warns us ahead,

It is ours by His strength to heed.

He gives us wheat,

It is ours to make bread.

He gives us a land,

It is ours to care for and weed...

He gave man this earth

Not to destroy but to buoy,

To care for.

It is not that through the process

Of our doing, if we choose Him

That He leaves us.

No! That would be our undoing.

It is that His biddings are enablings,

He strengthens us as we choose Him.

God calls us with Him to unite

It is up to us to respond.

Transfer not your responsibility

To God,

He has His,

You have yours too.

God will never perform for you

That which you must do.
