Have you ever observed in the Bible moments when Christ expressed a feeling or emotion? It’s a worthy study to reveal to us that He really was a man and is our example even in how we express emotions. His emotions were pure because He lived by the truth, by every word that came out of His Father’s mouth. And that is the key to pure emotions – they must be informed by the truth.
Following are cases where Christ expressed emotion:
He became angry. Yet He didn’t sin. This may be strange to some of us but if so, it tells us we need to know more of Him. KJV Mark 3:5 5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. Why was He angry? Being grieved for the hardness of their hearts.
Jesus wept and groaned a lot in pain. John 11:35. This is a popular one. He wept a lot and that profusely. Why? Read John 11. Some reasons are our unbelief in His power, hypocrisy, suffering humanity rejecting Him the Saviour.
Jesus suffered great sorrow. Mark 14:34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death… He was about to be separated from His Father. Why do we often get sad? For such reasons as mentioned above? For truth’s sake or our selfish desires unaccomplished? Here are some things to think about as the year ends…
