SUNSHINE AND SELF CONTROL

It is possible to shut yourself away from the sun, even though there is abundance of sunlight.

Ask yourself: How often do I spend time in the sunshine? -Every day? Most days? A few times a week?  Or rarely?

With present day civilization it is possible to avoid the sun for several days. From the heavy curtains at home, to a shaded car screened- (tinted glass) from the sun, driven by a driver, let off at the door to the building to an air-conditioned office all day till night, when ready to be back home and this cycle may repeat itself for several days a week. Keep in mind that the blessings of nature such as the sun can be gotten only as we get out and get it. The artificial lightIngs  in the office cannot replace the sun itself.

So open your windows pull back the curtains and let the sunshine in! It will kill germs, lift your spirits, and enhance your health.

It's also important to emphasise temperance or self-restraint. Also known as self-control.

We humans are a curious lot. Sensational discoveries and quick solutions to complex problems are almost irresistible. We are easily swept into excitement over what we deem can solve our problems quickly. My late father was such an enthusiast. When told to take 2 capsules of any medication. He will usually take four or more, explaining that more will solve the problems quicker.

A whole lot more is not necessarily better.

Temperance or self-control is lacking in society today.

God created all life to function consistently. You cannot maintain health if you are sporadic in obeying the laws that govern your being!

This is a hard message for today’s world that wants quick solution and does nearly everything to excess. Many eat of the same food too much, drink alcohol, smoke, spend too much on unnecessary things, party too much etc. Moderation in all healthy ideas and total abstinence from harmful habits is the true definition of a balanced life or a temperate life. We live in what has been described as a microwave age, a quick fix mentality. Today its difficult to accept that instant good health isn’t also available. That is why each time a new fad hits the headlines there is no shortage of takers. Only few are ready to listen to a message about the good sense balanced diet the body really needs.

Too much of a good thing is bad when your health is involved. Common sense and moderation will do more for you than any health fad or miracle cure. Balance is the key to good health. Learn to apply balance in all areas of your life. A person without self-control is like a house or a city with its doors and windows knocked out or its without walls.

Proverbs 25:28. “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls”

One of the main characteristics of self-discipline is the ability to forgo instant and immediate gratification and pleasure, in favor of some greater gain or more satisfying results, even if this requires effort and time.

What are some things you could do from this day to bring more balance to this part of your life?(use bullet points for the following)

Avoid acting out of impulse

Overcome eating too much, especially of the same food

Make good food choices

Eliminate brain fog- exercise in open air, avoid high sugar, fatty foods, drink enough water

Lose excess weight

Overcome other habits that are harmful

Resist temptations

Is your work stressful that you eat whatever is available such as snacks to keep going? Do you need to prepare breakfast and start the day right? How about the right amount of water each day? Do you take time for a walk each day? Are you getting enough sunshine into your bedroom and living rooms? If you leave home before sunshine and get back late at night your room may not see sunlight at all. Have you chosen to eat less of high fat foods and take to more of fresh fruits and raw vegetables?

Something to think about...
